Newcastle’s Mason Dane is breaking onto the global scene without forgetting where he’s come from.
Within the last year, his life has done a full 180 after hip hop legend T-Pain reviewed Dane’s track ‘DASH’ on his Twitch stream – a moment that quickly went viral on TikTok after he said, “I want this to be the worst song of all time so bad… but it’s a f**king good song! F**k this fat motherf**ker, man!”
Since his discovery, Dane and T-Pain have been building their friendship, with Dane heading to the US to connect and collaborate.
“There was a lot of exciting stuff that went down in America… The main focus of that trip was going to shoot this music video and just connect really. That was like the main reason, we really just wanted to like spend some time together and get to know each other a little more. ‘Cause you can only do so much in the public eye… Like posting comments and then, you know, on FaceTime obviously. But yeah, it was good to get in and then do something productive as well,” he said.
Behind the fortuitous discovery, listeners don’t see is the years of work Dane has hustled to build a solid foundation for this watershed moment. He says his all-consuming work ethic be attributed to his dad and his mum (who he’d one day make an album for, for sure).
“My parents have always supported me and always pushed me to do the music thing. Like my mum, she must’ve known man. Like she’s like, ‘Make songs, make songs’,” he said.
“And then, you know, like when I finished high school and I was just starting to do the music thing, all my friends from school were going to uni. And I was sort of like, I don’t know what to do. And my dad’s like, ‘Don’t go to uni, keep making songs.’ I think real hunger and stuff was probably just coming from trying to give back everything that they’ve done for me.”
With his first headline tour just coming to a close, the future is wide open for Mason Dane and we can’t wait to watch it.
