Earlier this month Yours & Owls Festival brought some of Australia’s finest musicians to North Wollongong for a two-day event that showcased some serious established and up-and-coming talent. Amongst those were sixteen year old pop phenomenon Ruel, the ethereal Vera Blue and the newest kids on the big block Spacey Jane.
Having just finished his Australian tour and embarking on his North American leg, Ruel is a barreling force that cannot be stopped. With pure pandemonium following him at every step, we managed to squeeze in some minutes of his time to catch up and see how this teen is finding his blissful chaos.
Vera Blue has just wrapped her The Way That You Love Me Tour and dropped a feature on Flume’s track, “Rushing Back”. Needless to say, she is also a power to be reckoned with and her performance at Yours & Owls proved that. We got to have a quick chat before she ducked off to perform and then straight on to Listen Out Festival for her appearance in Flume’s set.
Perth’s Spacey Jane have has an astronomical year from being a last minute add to the Splendour In The Grass line up, to packing out their sets at BIGSOUND and completing four tours with another in the horizon before the year is out. It’s almost tiring just hearing their schedule, let alone actually actioning it. They drew an impressive crowd to their early Day Two set and for good reason – they’re well worth the listen.
The interviewer attended Yours & Owls Festival on October 5th and 6th in North Wollongong.
