Sydney’s Jackie Onassis, part of larger hip hop collective One Day, have been killing it on nationally for a few years now. Ever since their debut single “The New Dumb”, they have helped lead Australian hip-hop onto a completely new wave, pushing tradition and bringing in outside influences for a well-rounded, melodic, and endearing sound. With MC Kai smoothly navigating Raph Lauren’s intricate productions, the duo have cemented themselves at the forefront of Australian hip hop in the 2010’s. All this before they even released their debut album.
Today, the lads have taken a huge leap forward, pulling a Beyoncé/Drake and finally unleashing their long-awaited debut album, named Pristine Alley for a Sydney spot that has meaning for them.
Available now on iTunes, Pristine Alley features 12 tracks showcasing the duo’s versatility and strong focus on melodic, infectious, and refreshing hip-hop. Guests include Jimm Finn aka Vydamo from Art vs Science, Melbourne emcee Allday, and fellow One Dayers Joyride and Spit Syndicate, as well as a few more.
“We love Beyonce and hate waiting”, Jackie Onassis offered up when speaking about why they chose the stealth approach, “instead of announcing two months ahead, we thought stuff it, we’ll do a Queen B and surprise people. No pre-orders, no funny business”.
“It feels like the fruition of us growing and developing our sound”, they added, echoing the stylish balance fans will hear on tracks like lead single “MIA” and the recently released “Stay In”.
