Returning to our shores for the first time since 2017, James Vincent McMorrow has announced a short run of shows in support the 15 year anniversary of his debut album Early In The Morning.
With a hat trick of shows announced across Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane this June, the Irish alt-folk act is taking it back to where it all began by playing Early In The Morning in its entirety, front to back with just him and his guitar; as he first visualised and performed the album in its infancy. Announcing the shows will also include a second set filled with his other hits, the tour shapes as an intimate and fulfilling run for an artist who has developed a fierce and loyal following over the past decade and a half.
Taking to his socials to announced the tour, McMorrow noted his scepticism about playing the album once again, as he makes ‘music in order to push myself forward, the idea of looking backwards at something I made at the very beginning felt a bit odd.’
After warming to the idea and having an epiphany about how much the album changed his life and how much he still loves it, it became a no-brainer when it came to booking the shows. ‘That album changed my life, when it came out I felt like a whole person for the first time, even when I was driving around in my car playing for 30 people every night, it felt like I was doing a thing that mattered…One thing I have only realised in these last few months is just how much that album means to people.’
Naturally plenty of things change over 15 years, but his fans remain ever in love and appreciative of the album. ‘A lot has changed for me, but the more I thought about it the more I realised that selfishly I wanted to have some new moments centred around the album, ones that I could enjoy it in the moment. There is no agenda, it’s just naivety and nostalgia, i want to stand on a stage with a guitar and sing the songs that changed my life.
With the tour taking place in less than three months, it won’t be long before James Vincent McMorrow is back in Australia playing an album that means so much to so many; the artist included.
