Karan Aujla to showcase his unique South Asian hip hop at some of Australia and New Zealand’s biggest arenas

Acclaimed Canada-based Punjabi artist Karan Aujla is gearing up for an arena tour around Sydney, Melbourne and Auckland, bringing his unique, award-winning blend of Punjabi folk and worldly contemporary music to some of the region’s biggest venues for the very first time since his debut in 2022.

Aujla’s star has reached tremendous heights this year. He became the first artist of Punjabi descent to win the fan-voted JUNO Award, not only making history but swiftly rising to the top of discussions about the undeniable rise of modern South Asian music over the past few years.

His magnetic stage presence and chart-topping hits like “Making Memories” (one billion streams) and “Softly” have clearly struck a chord with fans around the world, pushing him onto bigger venues such as Sydney’s Qudos Bank Arena and Auckland’s Spark Arena.

For his current It Was All A Dream world tour, the electrifying musician will showcase his distinctive on-stage presence and that snub-nosed modern sound that has seen him chew through collaborations with artists like DIVINE and Los Angeles rapper YG.

From his debut album BacTHAfuKUP (B.T.F.U.) to his latest smash hit, Making Memories, Aujla will have plenty of material to pull on as he showcases a new, hard-hitting style that effortlessly blends the best of both South Asian music and contemporary hip hop. And what great timing too, seeing as one of the highlights of SXSW Sydney was a South Asian music showcase which went down extraordinarily well with attendees.

As JAY-Z once famously said, “men lie, women lie, numbers don’t,” and the fact that Auja has clocked in 3 billion streams on YouTube goes to show that there’s been a paradigm shift in the way younger, determined South Asian artists are now fitting into the wider world of contemporary music. This not only makes Aujla’s upcoming Australia and New Zealand shows essential for music fans, but it’s also an important moment in the ongoing legacy of South Asian music.
