The last time Australia saw Kendrick Lamar, the irrepressible Compton emcee was playing stadiums across the country in support of Eminem at Rapture Festival. This time, the To Pimp a Butterfly genius will be headlining arenas on a two-show (so far) tour in addition to a headline slot at Byron Bay Bluesfest 2016.
Little needs to be said of how enormously important Kendrick Lamar is not just to contemporary hip hop but to music and art in general right now, with his powerful sophomore album quickly being hailed as one of the most complex, beautifully layered, and textured rap albums of the 21st century with a genre-defying sensibility. This will be our first chance to hear it live alongside his previous work, and hopefully some new ones come March.
The seven-time Grammy nominated rapper will be first headlining a show at Melbourne’s Rod Laver Arena on March 21st before heading to Sydney’s Allphones Arena on March 23rd.
Tickets for the Sydney and Melbourne shows will go on sale at 9am Monday, October 19. Those wanting to grab tickets early can do so in a Telstra pre-sale for Telstra customers from 10am on Wednesday 14th October – 10am Friday 16th October from telstra.com/music
