Locals Candy To Claw kicked off the evening in fine form with an enthralling display of hard edged alt rock. Their style of music is not my thing but their live show was fun to watch as the trio lost themselves in their songs with an incredibly passionate vocal performance courtesy of Patrick McGill. Definitely a band to check out if you’re into a heavier sound.
Damn Terran are hands down, one of the best live bands in town. They have an electrifying presence and play with an intense ferocity that inspires even the tamest hipster to rip their own shirt off and thrash around to the rampant hedonism that exudes from their post-punk mania. The brothers Ewbank and Ali Edmonds are an undeniable force who fucking slay it onstage and they tore the Northcote to shreds with the frenetic energy of their performance. Highlights were cracking renditions of “Death Of Me” and “Rational Economic Man”. Do yourself a favour and go see them play. Damn Terran live shows are one of those highly pleasurable experiences that you need to have before you die.
I was pleasantly surprised by the devout following that The Peep Tempel have inspired, with the packed out band room awash with Peep Tempel t-shirts that were donned by punters of all walks of life. As soon as they started playing it was easy to see why they’ve achieved their cult status as their live show was pure bloody mayhem. The band play with such a fearless bravado and their boundless energy was thrilling to witness. The fans were going as nutty as the band members who were all losing their shit onstage as they amped up the revelers with their fierce vocal screams. Highlights of the show were killer performances of “Mission Floyd”, “Down At The Peep Tempel”, “Collusion” and “Howlin’ Belle”, with the band tearing the venue in two during their encore and inciting their fans to near riotous states of dancing.
A good time was had by all at The Peep Tempel’s album launch, which ended up being a fantastic night out with three quality bands who know how to bring the party.
