When Ms. Lauryn Hill was announced as the headliner for Gold Coast’s Promiseland festival in October, people were… confused. Nothing against the Gold Coast, of course, but such a big name coming to Australia to celebrate 25 years her seminal solo debut, The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill, and just doing one show seemed a bit strange.
Well, now we can breathe a sigh of relief.
Announced by Teg Dainty, Ms Lauryn Hill will now perform two headline shows – one in Sydney, one in Melbourne – in early October.
“The Miseducation album has been a consistently special artwork that has allowed me to tour for 25 years, sharing the message and energy with its loyal appreciators.” said Hill.
“I’m not even sure if it feels like 25 years have gone by to me. I’m excited to celebrate this landmark anniversary with the fans in Australia, and I look forward to this time capsule experience. The music itself was born to be anachronistic, at the same time reclaiming precious jewels from the past, and infusing them with the potency and energy of the present, in order to enrich it and the future. Revisiting the album live has renewed my love and appreciation for the music and the period in which it was born, when hip-hop was ripe with potential and uncomplicated enthusiasm.”
Jamaican reggae artist Koffee will be on support duties for both shows, the first taking place on Tuesday 3rd October at Melbourne’s Rod Laver Arena and the second in Sydney’s Qudos Bank Arena on Thursday 5th October.
Everything from “To Zion” to “Ex-Factor” has been on the stacked set list of Hill’s tours so far, which include the entirety of her legendary album. Although we’re hoping she sneaks a few Fugees classics onto the set as well, much like she did the last two times she toured Australia.
Melbourne | Tuesday October 3 – Rod Laver Arena
Sydney | Thursday October 5 – Qudos Bank Arena
