The New Zealand themed bar Fern and Kiwi was one of the many places to be on the final night of Music Matters Live in Singapore on Friday night, though if you wanted to see some local music, there was none better. The Made in Singapore showcased displayed some of the finest local talent in the country and we were there to catch the first two acts: The Observatory (pictured below) and Kevin Lester (aka TheLionCityBoy) (pictured above).
Singapore group The Observatory were as rock and roll as you get – featuring a lead singer with incredibly long hair, two guitarists and a female on keys. Well I assume it was a female – with her long hair I never actually saw her face. Formed in 2001, the band perform as good industrial rock as any band I’ve seen – heavy on reverb and psychedelic effects along the way, with more spoken than sung lyrics. If that’s your sort of thing, then this is a band definitely worth checking out.
Next up was local rapper Kevin Lester aka TheLionCityBoy, with whom you can read an interview with HERE. He had a smooth and impressive production behind his tracks, all featured from his new album Everything You Love To Hate, the title track of which was my favourite track of the night. Kevin brought out an impressive guest vocalist, too, for the track “Danger”, Sezairi Sezal, who added an extra element to the already enticing performance. Kevin is able to work the crowd as well as the next, and definitely has the music to back it up. Check him out!
