Heath Media – parent company of the AU review – continues supporting the local music scene by today proudly announcing the return of CAPTURED. In 2011, as part of the Sydney Fringe Festival, we sourced out 6 of Australia’s best emerging filmmakers and matched them up with 6 of the countries most exciting young acts all through open competitions. These collaborations resulted in 6 music videos or short films. They were unique, creative and, most importantly, local showcases of talent!
This year “CAPTURED 2.0” returns with 6 new artists and filmmakers. Today we officially unveil an artist pool that ranges from Sydney thrashabilly punks Doc Holliday Takes The Shotgun to the already announced indie-folk Newcastle duo Riley and Donna alongside up and comers Tigertown, The Upskirts, electronic artist FOX and rockers Stone Parade (pictured). CAPTURED 2.0 boasts an even more diverse range of musical talent than ever before.
On the production side, CAPTURED 2.0 has enlisted the skills of filmmakers James Brettell, Turk Lees, Kim Sargenius, Sam Cupitt, Fin Lizzy and Jeremy Graham. Each one of these emerging filmmakers will be paired with one of the CAPTURED 2.0 artists (who is paired with who will be announced over the coming weeks at http://www.capturedsydney.com) and given two months to create a work under 5 minutes. Other than that there are no rules! Our filmmakers may submit a music clip, short film based around a song or even just an experimental, iconoclastic exercise between musicians and filmmakers! We don’t expect too much of the latter.
Oh, and there are prizes! Each of the films will be judged by our expert panel and the public gets to vote for their favorite song, too. We’re excited to have Rode Microphone and Soundcloud back on board this year, who will be providing some of these prizes, and welcome RAGE into the mix – with a guaranteed spot on the ABC program for the winning video. Many more prizes will be announced in early October, including a giveaway for one lucky member of the public.
