And we’re back! The video of the week was a bit of a no brainer. It belongs to Portland based Portugal. The Man, and their epic 13 minute music video “Sleep Forever / Got It All”. It opens with the stunningly beautiful track “Sleep Forever”, before leading into the current single “Got is All (This Can’t Be Living Now)”. All set it in the majesty of Alaska – from where the band originate.
Something tells me we’ll be seeing this band in Australia very soon… next we have the new clip from Adalita – “Perfection” off her self-titled solo album. The clip features a similar nature theme as her last two clips – so it’s little surprise we find it was directed again by Adam Harding, who captured the last two clips. A beautiful watch, and a great song.
Ah! We’ve been waiting for this one for a while at AU HQ… Laura Marling‘s beautiful new video has arrived for “Sophia”.
We love Ball Park Music at the AU – one of a handful of Brisbane bands doing some great things at the moment. “It’s Nice To Be Alive” is the track, and it’s the lead single from Ball Park Music’s debut album Happiness and Surrounding Suburbs, set to be released on September 9 through Stop Start/EMI in Australia and New Zealand!
Produced and Directed by Dan McGuiness, Leader Cheetah have a new clip for us, it’s “Our Love”, taken from their superb long player Lotus Skies. Leader Cheetah head out on a national tour next week, starting in WA. More details here: http://leadercheetah.com/
We have the first ever music video next for Unknown Mortal Orchestra – it’s for the brilliant “Little House”. Directed by New Zealand’s Liam Bachler, the Portland via New Zeland trio will visit Australia this December to perform the Homebake Festival, Falls Festivals and Southbound Festivals. The band’s self-titled debut album is out now.
In the country in June for Vivid Festival were DOM, and around that time they released a music video for “Living In America”. It’s a great clip! A pity we only got around to watching it now…
The Drones are back! “Work For Me” is a new recording of the song from the Drones 2006 classic LP, Gala Mill. It was recorded during the A Thousand Mistakes warehouse sessions, and features the sultry vocals of bassist Fiona Kitschin.
A Thousand Mistakes is a peephole into the on stage life of The Drones. With over four and half hours of footage, including a full live show from one of Melbourne’s favorite venues, The East Brunswick Club, filmed in 2010, and a bonus disc featuring rare live footage filmed 2005-2010, in Germany, France and Australia. A Thousand Mistakes will be in store September 16th 2011 independently through Shock Records.
Next we have Girls with the new track “Vomit”, taken from their forthcoming album Father, Son, Holy Ghost, set to be released in September.
Finally, we end with a bit of a psychedelic and colourful clip with The Earth is a Man and “You Might Have a Moustache”. The Earth is a Man are an instrumental rock band from Chicago, IL, and they list Tortoise and Maps and Atlases as their main influences. Check out the track and learn more about the band here: http://www.facebook.com/TheEarthisaMan
We’ll see you same time next week! Good luck to all the bands nominated in the Queensland Music Awards! They’re announced tomorrow night!
