HÆLOS are a trio of musicians that have kinda come to my attention in a similar way London Grammar did a few years ago. The first sounds of theirs I heard indicated that the trio were something more than just a flash in the pan Pitchfork/Stereogum favourite, there was something more in their darkly seductive percussion and synth work that lit up the arrangements.
Now, with their debut album Full Circle, the band looks to amplify those aspects more and really knock people’s socks off (it’s out March 18th), how do we know? New single “Separate Lives” is a prime example of where this band is going. It’s radiant, emotionally provocative and the music video is excellently reflective of the way the band has married some melancholic lyricism with some brilliant musicianship.
Says the band of the single, “We wanted it to be a nod towards some of our more gospel and Delta blues influences. It’s a reflection on the moment when you are choosing between staying or leaving and the underlying love that keeps you there. We liked that, it was simple and human and something we could all share experience in.”
Definitely keep an eye on HÆLOS – we think 2016 is going to be very good to them.
