US songwriter and performer Lola Kirke has dished up a new music video for her single “Not Used”, directed by and starring her sister, actress Jemima Kirke. The single is a well-crafted piece of dreamy Americana and proves to be a great introduction to Lola’s style.
Her debut EP is out now and boasts much of the same style of story telling – Lola’s vocals are mesmerising, akin to Sharon van Etten, while her musicality mirrors some great American folk-rock sounds out of the 60’s and 70’s.
Says Jemima about the music video: “Those transitional, soul-level-change moments we experience are never dramatic. Epiphanies don’t really happen. They’re a myth. Real transformation is boring and uncomfortable, like working out on your birthday when you have no plans. Change slips in unnoticed while you’re busy trudging through something pretty unremarkable.”
