Australia has been taking on the Americana genre recently to great effect, and it makes sense. Both countries have deep history in story telling through music and with the likes of All Our Exes Live In Texas doing their thing as well as they are? It’s clear the surge forward of Australians bringing their stories to large audiences is one that is strong.
So, enter Royal and The Southern Echo. Beginning back in 2014 as a small project from Brisbane’s Bryce Schneider, the project has really taken strides. Travelling through Europe informed the direction Schneider travelled down musically and in his new single as Royal and The Southern Echo – “Hunt Your Love Down” – we get a great slice of this story telling talent we’ve been talking about.
“Lately I’ve really wanted to explore the kind of mild lunacy that seems to follow what we call ‘normal’ life around,” he explains. “…I was trying to win back the affections of my longterm on and off partner by throwing a dinner party. I thought if I could show her I’m an adult, and host something like this for her and our friends, she might come back around. Everything went well until we all had too much wine and one of my friends got into an argument with one of her friends and the whole thing fell dramatically apart. I remember waking up from that and picking up the guitar and the song just fell out of my head.”
