We have added ten more tracks to our Discovery playlist on Spotify and Apple Music. This week, our Track of the Week is “I Don’t Have The Heart” from singer/songwriter Jess Hitchcock. It’s the first new music from Jess since 2019, and it’s a beauty.
It’s little wonder it’s taken so long for Jess to bring out new music, as she is often seen on stage with the likes of Paul Kelly, Tina Arena, Lisa Mitchell, and Kate Miller-Heidke, as well as working with Australia’s Indigenous opera company, Short Black Opera. She also performed in the Bangarra Dance Theatre production of ‘Wudjang: Not the Past’, which was INCREDIBLE.
Her track “I Don’t Have The Heart” came to her via Tina Arena, and showcases Jess’s incredible voice beautifully. It’s packed with all the feels, and is the first taste of her upcoming studio album, Unbreakable, which is due out later in the year.
Americana artist Gretta Ziller has released “Ain’t Even Your Lover”, a jaunty and defiant upbeat song about walking away from a toxic relationship with your head held high.
On the flipside, we’ve got a tender love song from beabadoobee. “Glue Song” has been a fan-favourite from live performance, and has now been recorded. It’s tender, sweet and joyful.
“Sky Queen” is the new single from production duo Rose Rose. The duo, who are split between London and Paris, dial up the vibes on this one, bringing in airy synthesisers, funky guitars and big vocals. Funky, fresh and just so joyful and bright; we could all do with a bit more “Sky Queen” on our playlists and in our lives. Keep an ear out for the duo’s debut EP which is due for release next month.
“What’s the Use?” is the new single from experimental alternative rock band Elohyek, and their second from forthcoming album Evergreen Motel (out March 3rd). The album was recorded between South Carolina and Cumbria, England. Moody and atmospheric, “What’s the Use?” subtly blends electronic and organic elements to offer a different take on the straightforward rock number.
French singer-songwriter Antoine Duclos has released his new single “Life Ache”. According to Duclos, the single is about “The moment when you realize you only are a witness to your own life, that life goes by and you do nothing to take some kind of real control of it.” It’s a song that is impactful in its minimalism, and has an air of atmospheric brooding and emotion that holds the listener’s attention.
We also have premieres from Junior Bones and Angus McColl.
