We’re updating our Discovery playlist on Spotify and Apple Music for the final time this month. We’ve got another ten new tracks for your listening pleasure, including two singles we premiered earlier this week.
Our Track of the Week goes to The Moving Stills, with their latest single, “Running Out”. Hailing from the NSW Central Coast / Darkinjung Country, this band make effortlessly cool chill rock. There’s a sweet nostalgic vibe to “Running Out”, as they bring an upbeat danceable groove, singing about the challenge of navigating relationships and emotional overload. We caught them supporting The Jungle Giants on their regional tour last year, and were blown away. This is a band on the up and up.
It’s been a big week for Irish country/pop singer CMAT. She’s announced that her new album Euro-Country will be released on the 29th of August, and has shared the lead single, “Running/Planning”. If you caught her in her Australian shows in January, you will know how great she is. Captivating, emotive, and oozing personality. About the track, CMAT writes: “Running/Planning’ is about having to chase your own tail to be good enough to exist. It’s an abstracted view of societal pressure on women – specifically through a relationship lens: You start dating someone, you get engaged, you get married, you have kids etc etc etc… everything has to follow this linear pattern….”
“sorry in advance’ is the new single from Australian alt-pop artist Yorke, the latest to be released from her upcoming EP Unfinished Business – out June 13th (pre-order HERE). The supercharged slice of pop, which was co-written with Ciara Muscat, sees Yorke moving into K-pop territory, borrowing heavily in terms of melodic and arrangement styles. It’s bold, bright and full of joyful, cheeky energy. It’s just about everything we want from a pop song!
Kathleen Halloran is taking another step into the world of being a solo-artist, with her second single “Find Me Again”. She is well established as a gun guitarist, being a staple with the likes of Kate Ceberano and others, and it’s exciting to see her flex all of her talents. As in her debut release, “Free With Me”, her formidable guiatar prowess is to the fore, and the songwriting is shining as well, as she explores the delicate balance between love and identity. Her vocals carry an emotional weight that elevate this new single.
This week we also have a new track from Irish singer-songwriter James Vincent McMorrow – “Cowboys of Los”. The release comes fresh off the back of the announcement that McMorrow will be heading down to Australia in June for a string of headline shows to celebrate the 15th anniversary of his debut album Early In The Morning. “Cowboys of Los” is a continuation of McMorrow’s exciting new career chapter, and continues to find him in rich songwriting form. It has everything you’d expect from a McMorrow release: introspective and evocative lyricism combined with rich, textured instrumentation and that familiar emotive vocal.
“Find My Way To You” is the beautiful new single from bluegrass/folk trio (or supergroup) I’m With Her. The trio, which is made up of Sarah Jarosz, Aoife O’Donovan, and Sara Watkins – is set to release their new album Wild and Clear and Blue in May, from which “Find My Way To You” is taken. It’s a track that leans into the world of bluegrass – think fiddles, mandolin, and a rootsy dynamism – and really showcases the group’s vocal prowess and exquisite harmonies. Stunning!
Also added to the playlist this week is “It’s Change”, the playful and oddly captivating single from composers, producers and mutli-instrumentalists Rachika Nayar and Nina Keith‘s new collaborative project Disiniblud. We also have “Murder in the First Degree”, the latest release from Naarm rockers Leatherman, which sees true crime and heavy metal collide to brilliant effect.
Finally, we’ve added “Girl From Mars” from Lolita Mae, and “Free Man” from The Southern Dukes, which we premiered earlier in the week.
