As we are about to head into Spring in Australia, we’ve added ten new tracks to our Discovery playlist on Apple Music and Spotify. We are especially delighted to see four debut tracks from fresh artists this week. Our Track of the Week goes to “I’ll Get By”, a powerful new single from Indigenous hip hop group DEM MOB.
The single embodies hope and optimism for those who are grappling with mental health challenges. It has a powerful message that you can get through the crisis, buoyed along with some ever-so-sweet melodies and clean vocals. It evidently came to the group during a high productivity phase, completed in just twenty-four hours.
We see new music by Ducks! We share new music by Ducks! We’re big fans of the Berlin-based Australians here at the AU. You never quite know what you’re going to get, but it’s always a vibe, and “Joys Of A Mouth” is no different. Sparkling keys, ethereal vocals, fidgety beats and a soulful groove combine beautifully in captivating track that straddles the intersection between art and pop. The single is also from their new EP, Into The Blue, that’s due late next month. So, good news, there’s more Ducks! to come.
Dan Azzo has been a staple on the Australian house music scene as a DJ, and this week, he is making a deep foray into releasing music under his own name with his debut single, “Perfect Love”. He has roped in one of the best guest vocalists around, the incredible Ngaiire. The track is feel-good, upbeat and totally infectious.
“Golden” is the new single from BIGSOUND-bound Sydney band Mac The Knife. The track which is full of post-punk swagger was produced by Wade Keighran, and sees the band showcasing their songwriting versatility. “Golden” is inspired by the vocalist and songwriter for the band’s struggles with depression and the “feeling of relief when you wake up in the morning one day, and the work you’ve been diving into inside yourself has finally started to take effect”.
“Internet Star” is the new single from googly eyes and her debut release on Tove Lo’s independent label Pretty Swede Records. The track is from her upcoming debut EP Starlet Sellout – due September 27th – and is a captivating introduction to googly eye’s vibrant songcraft. It’s playful, poetic and full of creativity and brightness.
Another debut single is “Last Day of May” by Brisbane-based folk artist Georgia Betts. Gorgeous acoustic guitar, emotive vocals and a keen turn of phrase have Georgia down as one to watch. You get the feeling that a complete album of songs will be there waiting in the background ready to be released. We hope so.
Also added to the playlist are “Let Me Know”, the debut single from Adelaide’s Jupiter Saloon, “Grenades & Stomach Flu”, the debut single from General Mack’s Grapeshot, as well as two tracks we exclusively premiered earlier in the week – “Wasted” from Poison Oak and “Essence of Me” from Sparxsea.
