As we head into March this week we have added ten tracks to our Discovery playlist, including three exclusive premieres. This week our Track of the Week is “Don’t Tell Your Mother” from Neighbour. Neighbour is the musical project of aspiring comedian/musician, Ryan Nebauer. “Don’t Tell Your Mother” is a moving song that Ryan wrote about his late father. It’s a song of acceptance that rips at the heartstrings.
Alex The Astronaut has today announced her sophomore album How to Grow A Sunflower Underwater will be out July 22. She has also released a new single off the album, “Octopus”. It maps her journey of being diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder. It’s heartwarming, her songwriting is as strong as ever, and another example of the superpowers of our favourite astronaut.
Also added this week is “Fly”, the new single from Manchester singer-songwriter Test Card Girl. The track is the second single to be released from her forthcoming debut synth-folk EP which is set to drop in July. Written during the long hot days of the first UK lockdown in 2020, this charming track is about feeling trapped inside and jealous of a fly and its freedom. It’s a beautiful track, full of character, and features a delightful vocal performance from the Mancunian.
Carla Geneve has given us another taste in “Brighter than Blue” from her forthcoming debut album, Learn to Like It which drops on the 8th of April. It’s emotive with soaring vocals and wistful guitars.
We also have “January’s River” the debut single from Well Dressed Spirits, the new project from Texan singer-songwriter Jimmy Taylor. Firmly rooted in the world of Americana, the highlight here are the vocals and those understated harmonies. It’s an atmospheric number, and, for us at least brings to mind AU favourites Typhoon. Joining Well Dressed Spirits on the playlist are French acts Cyma and Oh! Tiger Mountain with their tracks “Gollum” and “Akureyki_Keflavik” respectively. The first is a breezy pop rock track; whilst the second is an altogether quirkier affair.
Rounding out the playlists are tracks from Creep Features, High Ace, and Garrett Kato who we all exclusively featured over the last week.
