As we rocket into the final quarter of 2024, we’ve added ten new tracks to our Discovery playlist on Spotify and Apple Music, including one we premiered earlier in the week. Our track of the week goes to Liverpool indie-rockers Circa Waves, with their cathartic and anthemic new single, “We Made It”.
A track imbued with optimism and feel-good vibes, the track is the first from their just-announced new album, Death & Love Pt.1, due out on 31st January 2025. With big hooks, a catchy chorus and guitar-driven melody, it’s just the tonic we all need.
It has been a big week for Naam/Melbourne outfit Floodlights. They’ve signed with [PIAS] Recordings and released the gorgeous new track, “Can You Feel It”. We can indeed. It’s another golden slice of urgent cathartic guitar rock. They started writing the song in Melbourne, and it was finished in the UK. They are a band who have travelled and performed extensively, in Australian and Europe, and you can feel the northern English vibes seeping through this one. It’s intoxicating and moorish.
Warhaus is the solo project of Maarten Devoldere (of Balthazar), and he has just released “No Surprise”, a track that is sultry, captivating and ever so smooth. The lights are turned right down on this one, it’s playful and mysterious. You’ll be able to find it on his upcoming album, a Karaoke Moon , out 22nd November.
“Joshua” is the new single from Naarm-based alt-folk singer-songwriter Bec Sykes, and the third and latest offering from her forthcoming debut album Pepperpot Magic – out November 6th (pre-order it HERE). Intimate, conversational and just quietly heartbreaking, “Joshua” really showcases Syke’s stunning vocal. The stripped back instrumentation – primarily some minimalist piano – really allows the emotive core of the song to shine through. Beautiful!
Former black midi guitarist and vocalist Geordie Greep releases his debut solo album, The New Sound, today. “Blues” the second single from the album dropped earlier in the week. It’s bold, creative, percussively relentless, and lyrically dense – with Greep drawing you in with each fresh verse or stanza. It’s also a lot of fun, and will, along with the rest of the album, no doubt fill the black midi shaped hole in fans’ hearts.
“Perfect Piece of Person I’m Made For” is the latest single from alt-pop act Daphnie, and the vibe is very much ‘cruise silly absurd love song’ per the artist. As is often the case with Daphnie’s singles, “PPOPIMF” is just so much fun and packed full of quirky sounds and joy. Or as Daphnie describes it, a blend of “teen rom com coming of age movie music with something you’d hear in an elevator while waiting to get to the 2nd top floor of a very tall building.” Whatever you want to call it, we’re here for it!.
“Emerald Skies” is the latest single from Adelaide-based First Nations artist Rob Edwards. The song is the product of Edwards’ journey reconnecting to his Indigenous heritage and healing the intergenerational trauma of the Stolen Generation. It is, then, as you would expect a deeply personal and emotionally powerful track. The single is the final standalone release before the arrival of his forthcoming EP, so stay tuned for more to come!
We’ve also added the brilliantly catchy “it’s a me thing :)” from Toronto’s Maya Malkin; the boundary pushing “Radical Theory” from Liberian/Finnish singer-songwriter Jesse Markin; and “Curbside”, which we premiered earlier in the week from Laura Adeline .
