Dark-Pop visionary Caroline Polachek is finally gracing our shores with a handful of shows this December.
In what seems to be the year of striking sideshows, in addition to headlining Meredith Festival, the chart trailblazer will be hitting up Sydney, Melbourne (with a special co-presentation by ALWAYS LIVE) and Brisbane. In the last few years, Polacheck made a clear-cut identity shift from synth duo Chairlift into her current, boundary-pushing sound.
The now cult-classic “So Hot You’re Hurting My Feelings”, changed the trajectory of Polachecks relatively underground presence with the very modern helping hand of Tikok. The subsequent 2023 album, Desire, I Want To Turn Into You, has been making waves since its release, amassing a casual 175 million-plus streams and earning a well-deserved spot among Metacritic’s top-reviewed albums.
Building upon this acclaim, Polacheck is already being described as “one of the greatest musicians of our time” (i-D), alongside gleaming praise from The New York Times, The Guardian, The Fader, NME, which is no humble feat. Polacheck is a perfect pretty storm of soaring vocals and haunting imagery and consistently maintains a fearless approach to her art – something which has more than earned her commercial and critical success.
Desire, I Want To Turn Into You isn’t just an album; it’s a declaration of Polachek’s ascent as a chart-climbing dark horse. The track list boasts a solid collection of hits like “Bunny Is A Rider”, “Sunset”, and “Smoke”. Breaking and redefining pop conventions seems to be the key, as Polacheck has featured alongside remix royals Charli XCX, Flume and Christine and the Queens.
Fresh off the support slot of Dua Lipa’s US tour, the Australian leg of The Spiraling Tour promises to be nothing short of incredible. To experience her ethereal sound in the flesh will be something else! Melbourne’s show is shaping up to be extra special, as it’s co-presented by ALWAYS LIVE, a celebration of live music supported by the Victorian Government from 24th November – 10 December.
