Dublin-based indie rockers Inhaler are gearing up to traverse Australia with their debut headline tour in August. Described as “a bunch of lads writing their own songs, and their own script,” they are more than humbly self-portrayed, having just come off a global tour in the wake of their 2023 album Cuts & Bruises, which earned a respectable 71 average score from Metacritic. This year, the quartet is set to finally deliver their guitar-driven sound to Sydney, Melbourne, and Brisbane stages.
Members Elijah Hewson, Robert Keating, Ryan McMahon, and Josh Jenkinson have been playing together for over a decade but only burst into the mainstream not long ago with their debut album It Won’t Always Be Like This. With a couple of huge hits such as “My Honest Face” and “When It Breaks”, the 2021 album soared to the top of both the UK and Irish charts, collecting a hefty number of industry accolades. It became not only the fastest-selling debut vinyl of any band this century but marked Inhaler as the first Irish group to debut at number one in over a decade.
It is well-known that Elijah Hewson is the son of Bono, which often leads to comparisons of Inhaler’s sound with early U2 releases. Pop culture loves to point the Nepo Baby finger these days, but their second album, Cuts & Bruises, has solidified Inhaler’s reputation as a powerhouse band in their own right. The album builds on their initial success, with a maturity to the sound—it isn’t difficult to picture them in a stadium filled with eager fans (of which they have a solid foundation).
The tour kicks off at Sydney’s Liberty Hall on 29th August, followed by Melbourne’s Prince Bandroom on the 30th August, and wraps up at Brisbane’s Triffid on the 31st August. This short but sweet tour will hopefully be both an introduction to Australian live audiences and a showcase of Inhaler’s growth as artists.
