Nominations for the ARIA Music Teacher of the Year Award are now open, with any teacher working on a music program at a school, kindy, early childhood centre, youth centre or in private tuition, able to be put forward for nomination.
Last year, Renee McCarthy (pictured) from South Australia’s Woodcroft College, won the Music Teacher of the Year ARIA, an award presented by ARIA and national arts education organisation, The Song Room. The award, introduced to recognise teachers working hard to enthuse and educate the next wave of talented Australian musicians, has seen finalist participants visited by ARIA Artist Ambassadors Josh Pyke, Lior, Jessica Mauboy and Missy Higgins.
“Many of the greatest musicians of our time credit their teachers with being a critical factor in their success, but it’s much more than that, for many children their music or art teacher has helped them develop a sense of belonging and purpose! Hats off to ARIA and Telstra for helping us to celebrate the enormous contribution made by music teachers.” said Simon Gipson, CEO of The Song Room.
You can find out more about the award and nominate via www.ariamusicteacheraward.com.au. A public voting process will be conducted, with the winner being announced at the ARIA Awards in Sydney this November.
