Meet NZ songwriter Nakita. Today, we’re finding out more about this exciting new artist – at just 18 years old, she’s been garnering acclaim for her latest single “Sucka”.
Nakita linked up with Matthew Young and Grammy nominated producer Leroy Clampitt (Justin Bieber) to make this narrative of an unhealthy infatuation into a catchy song that we’ve been switched on to over the past few weeks.
While we hang out for more new material from Nakita to emerge this year, she tells us some more about her influences and the creatives she loves.

YASMIN SUTEJA
I’ve followed Yasmin for a long while now and draw so much inspiration from what she does. She started her own Creative/Talent Agency called Culture Machine which she filters her mad photography, styling and creative directing skills though. She still super young and so it’s so encouraging to people like me, to see what she’s doing and to see how she’s built a company out of what she loves doing.
SARAH’S DAY
Last year, I stumbled across a YouTuber called Sarah’s Day, whose journey started with an Instagram on how she cleared her acne. From there, her page grew into one about her health and fitness lifestyle. She’s now moved from her Instagram to YouTube, where she films her life and gives endless tips on how us, as young females, can keep our bodies at their peak. I’ve learnt so much about food and how what we put in our bodies affects different functions of the body. Her creative recipes and positive lifestyle are what have gotten me super hooked on watching her.
CHELSEA JADE
Chelsea Jade is a music artist from NZ who is making waves in the industry at the moment. Her stage performance is what has interested me a lot. She finds creative ways to feed random movement through her show – I haven’t really seen anything like it before. Hard to explain but its super wacky and just works so perfectly for her as an artist. Super groovy music and her songwriting is just beautiful.
CARTIA MALLAN
Cartia is such a standout in terms of YouTubers who are around my age. I freakin’ love Cartia’s creative way of documenting her life through film and fashion. She doesn’t grasp to trends but she makes her own…. and she’s killing it by achieving anything she wants at such a young age. She even launched her own fashion line this year.
THE VENUS PROJECT
Georgia Nott (from the duo Broods) branched off this year and created her own solo music project under the name ‘The Venus Project’. What’s special about this though is that the whole project (album) start to finish was entirely created by women – and they outcome is INCREDIBLE. 10/10 would recommend the listen and reading into the stories behind her project.
