FBi today announced Oliver Tank and Rainbow Chan as the two winners of the 2011 Northern Lights Competition. These two solo artists will be heading to Reykjavik in October to check out (and play at!) the Iceland Airwaves Festival, meet and collaborate with other musicians, and experience the magic of the aurora borealis. FBi is covering flights and accommodation and sending Music Director Dan Zilber along as chaperone.
Dan Zilber said, “This competition has allowed FBi to extend what we do – discovering new talent and exposing it to a wider audience – to an international level. We think playing at Iceland Airwaves, collaborating with international musicians and being in Reykjavik during one of the world’s most vibrant music festivals will be an invaluable experience for these guys.”
Over 200 musicians entered the competition in its inaugural year, made possible by a foundation grant. The FBi team chose six talented finalists from the bunch – Flume, Tim Fitz, Caitlin Park, Whyte Fang, Tank and Rainbow Chan – before voting was opened to the public for 5 weeks to determine the final two.
Oliver Tank recently signed to local label Yes Please and has an EP due out in October.
Rainbow Chan released her debut EP, “Brushed Upon With Rose” in May this year.
A free compilation featuring tracks from all six finalists is now available for download from the FBi website.
