If you were wondering why our previous installment of ‘Most Anticipated Album Releases of 2012’ didn’t feature any local acts… there was a reason for that. We have debated, deliberated and pulled many strands of hair in wishing that more could be included in the list. However, the following native heroes made the cut… in no particular order:
1. Missy Higgins – TBA (Pictured Above)
After spending three months in Nashville recording her third album, many of us are anticipating what’s next for Miss Higgins after the massive successes of her previous two releases. In this case, we assume it will be third time lucky for the songbird.
2. Wolfmother – TBA
With the phenomenal rise to fame after the release of their debut, self-titled album in 2005, the rockers slightly dropped off the radar due to news of a split in 2008 and everchanging lineup since the release of second album, Cosmic Egg, in 2009. After a “colossal” supporting tour with AC/DC a year later, we can only hope it’s a positive sign for Wolfmother’s next album release in 2012.
3. Children Collide – Monument
Due to release a brand-spanking new record in April is Melbourne band, Children Collide. After announcing to their fans on Facebook that their album was mixed and finished on the 16th December, 2011, it’s only a matter of time before the boy wonders of indie rock are back again to launch their upcoming release, Monument.
4. DZ Deathrays – No Sleep
Queensland thrashers, DZ Deathrays, made waves last year with second record, Brutal Tapes and subsequent EP tour across the country. There’s no sign of slowing down for the duo, as they continue to grace us with their presence as part of the Laneway Festival and sideshow tours in 2012. Not to mention giving us a buzzfeed with new album, No Sleep – out now!
5. Deep Sea Arcade – Outlands
Sydney band, Deep Sea Arcade, are due to introduce themselves to the public eye on March 9 with the release of their debut album, Outlands. You can also catch them live, supporting Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds and fellow featured friends, Children Collide during March and April. Get on it!
6. Melodie Nelson – To The Dollhouse
In 2011, Lia Tsamoglou (moniker: Melodie Nelson) captivated us with her debut release in the form of the highly anticipated, Meditations On The Sun. While most artists decide to wait a while before their new record, we are already awaiting the release of To The Dollhouse with welcome ears.
7. Sarah Blasko – TBA
Hitting the studio in early 2012 for her next solo effort is long time coming for Ms Blasko, as the singer-songwriter has been spending her time in a collaborative fashion with Holly Throsby and Sally Seltmann as part of the mega-successful trio, Seeker Lover Keeper.
8. Ladyhawke (NZ) – Anxiety
As much as we love to claim Ladyhawke as one of our own, the Kiwi songstress is set to release the follow-up album to her highly electrifying debut on March 16. It has already been four years since the release of Ladyhawke, so the absence is definitely felt… and missed.
9. Birds of Tokyo – TBA
With news recently surfacing that the band has just finished writing their fourth album, Birds of Tokyo have already made plans to commence recording as early as next week. There’s no telling when the final product is complete, but we hope that the wait is not a painfully long one!
10. The Presets – TBA
As they continue to tour the US during early 2012, Kim Moyes and Julian Hamilton have slightly hinted at a possible launch of The Presets’ next release this year, along with a national tour to coincide with the launch. There’s no doubt it will be one of the biggest events of the year!
