The iconic festival Austin City Limits kicked off its 2018 edition today in style today, with the help of Sir Paul McCartney, Brockhampton and Khalid.
It was a busy day of live music, with plenty of great acts in action, including Fatai and Gang of Youths flying the flag for Australia. Melbourne’s Fatai, wearing all black in solidarity with the women protesting in DC, closed out her set with a song dedicated to the #metoo movement. Whilst, Aussie favourites Gang of Youths brought on a whimsical twist, with their sober lyrics laced with upbeat and strong instrumentals.
Lovelytheband helped kick things off early in the day, packing out the BMI stage and soon had the strong amped up crowd singing along. Mikky Ekko followed them, treating the crowd to some wonderfully retro synth vibes and great energy.
Meanwhile, Michigan’s Greta Van Fleet brought an old school flare to the festival, with some fantastic falsettos and great accompanying guitars solos. Brockhampton got the many young kids present into a real frenzy, leading to a large mosh pit as hip hop blared on.
Sir Paul McCartney added his name to the long list of iconic and unforgettable performances at the festival with a headlining performance that will likely go down in ACL history. With a mixture of tracks that balanced the old with the new, including “Hard Days Night” and “Live and Let Die” (with fireworks, of course!) the Beatle moved and electrified the crowd.
