Photo Gallery: Groovin the Moo starts in Adelaide with a bang

Fatboy Slim

On Friday, the Adelaide Showgrounds in Kuarna Country hosted the first leg of the Groovin the Moo tour. What a way to start it was. With three stages, the day was full of non-stop music and activity.

Fatboy Slim closed off the main stage with his unique blend of mashups. Taking the collage theme one step further, he also had mashed up imagery projecting to the screen behind. One highlight was his AI interpretation of Christopher Walken dancing from the “Weapon of Choice” video.

Meanwhile Alt-J were taking cool and moody to next level in the Moulin Rouge tent. Backlit and static, the three members let the music shine through with minimal props. LUUDE on before Alt-J played a well received hardcore set.

The dual stage setup on the Cattleyard / Triple J stages meant that the alternating acts were streamed to the other stage, giving a seamless experience for the audience. Ocean Alley followed by Amy Shark before jumping straight into Denzel Curry meant that the energy levels never waned.

Back in the massive Moulin Rouge tent, Genesis Owusu and his gimp-suited backup performers played an impressive set. In contrast, in her white cheerleader outfit, USA performer Slayyyter (with 3 y’s) strutted her stuff with panache and confidence.

Over at the Hilltown stage, local dance DJs such as Cocteau Twinks and Strict Face drew smaller but appreciative audiences.

With plenty of food and drink stalls, side-show rides and market stalls, there was plenty to see and do outside of the main arenas. A great day was had by all, although a few were regretting the skimpy outfit choices as the evening chill set in.
