The Old Mervs took to the stage on Thursday night for the first of the two sold-out shows at The Triffid as part of their ‘How The Fark Are Ya?’ tour. Off the back of previous headline tours around New Zealand and Australia, a nomination for Best New Artist at the Rolling Stone Awards, and securing the 47th spot in triple j’s hottest 100, Old Mervs continue to gain momentum and captivate audiences with their distinct sound and dynamic performances.
While fellow Western Australian band Fool Nelson are the main support, the tour also features local bands from each state as openers, with Brisbane’s being Mid Drift.
Mid Drift delighted the crowd with a 2000s classic with their cover of “Smile” by British singer-songwriter Lily Allen, meanwhile Fool Nelson covered “Hanging by a Moment” by American rock band Lifehouse. Both band performances sparked enthusiastic sing-alongs that got the crowd eager awaiting the main act.
The WA based duo were greeted with enthusiastic cheers as they took the stage, quickly engaging with the crowd through playful banter and playing their hit songs “Out of Luck,” “Sweetheart,” and “Cellphone.” Dave introduced their cover of “Stuck in the middle” by Stealers Wheel with a touching introduction, revealing that it’s his dad’s favourite song that they play.
On tour with their best music yet, they are definitely the ones to catch live as they grow to new heights!
Emma Belas was there to capture it all.
