The Hoodoo Gurus brought their seemingly endlessly rescheduled 40th Anniversary tour to The Hordern Pavilion last Thursday night. It was a sold-out show, with the mighty Dandy Warhols and The Buoys in support. The audience was multi-generational, reflecting on how long they have been around, and the quality of their songs over the duration of their career.
The Buoys were an excellent start to the evening and made it worth getting to the venue early. The Dandy Warhols, well known for their long sets were curtailed to a brisk fifty minutes. This led to a different Dandy’s experience from the usual, but the setlist was quality and featured many of their hits.
And then it was time for the Gurus. It was a classic setlist, with favourite albums such as their debut, Stoneage Romeos well represented. The songs from their last album, Chariot of the Gods stood up well amongst those most of the crowd were more familiar with.
Bruce was there to bring you these photos, of what was actually their 41st anniversary. And just to bring the show to the ultimate climax, The Dandy Warhols and The Buoys joined the fray for the final song, a gloriously jubilant “Leilani”.
