Sametime share “Golden” video and their top five artists right now

Sunshine Coast indie-pop duo Sametime have today unveiled the provocative video for their latest single “Golden”, released 7 July. The news was coupled with the announcement of a five-date East Coast tour, wrapping up on Saturday 23 in Sydney.

“The theme for the song was sex. It was an area we hadn’t explored musically and with our music growing and maturing as we are, it felt like the best next step… plus sex is fun.”

The track features electronic soundscapes and driving beats that highlight brothers Tim and Sam Aitken’s knack for crafting catchy melodies with compelling narratives. It was produced by Cam Robertson (Glades) and mastered by APRA Award winner Paul Blakey (Amy Shark) to get it where Sametime wanted it to be.

“We wanted the song to be about somebody who has an insatiable appetite and is ‘golden’, the best of the best. We drew from personal experiences and put them on steroids to make it more interesting, something we do a fair bit when writing.”

The accompanying video was shot in Suntown Studios near Noosa and Sametime collaborated with director Peter John (The Paper Kites) to recreate the mood of the lyrics. The boys perform the song on a purple background with overlay of a female character dancing seductively while they take turns watching through a peephole.

Sametime also shared their top five artists they are loving at the moment and why.

The 1975

Sam: Everything is just perfect, like a Large Chicken Tenders Box, with a Mountain Dew and extra salt on the chips please, on a rainy day.

Tim: The 1975 are the reason we’re a pop band. Everything that they do is an inspiration to us, from the songwriting to the production to the live shows. To put it simply, we’d still be folk buskers if it wasn’t for this band.

Finneas

Sam: Finneas is a genius and there’s no doubt about it. His production skills and techniques always seem to blow my mind and his songwriting is even better. We take a lot of inspiration from Finneas’ songwriting style when making Sametime music.

Tim: At 24 years old, Finneas is the biggest pop producer/songwriter working. His ability to make pop music that sounds unique is incredibly inspiring. He pushes boundaries and takes risks that a lot of producers/songwriters wouldn’t and we love that.

WLDLFE

Sam: I came across this band back in 2018 ad instantly fell in love with them. Ever since then they have been up there with my most listened to artists/bands. Something about their style of music and songwriting keeps me coming back for more and I love it.

Coldplay

Tim: I mean, it’s freaking Coldplay, do I need to say anything more? I love Coldplay because of how they continue to evolve their sound and songwriting even though they are the biggest pop band in the world. They are the kings of making pop anthems and Chris Martin’s voice is just the coolest. If you’re searching for inspiration, you must watch the A Head Full of Dreams documentary.

Sam Fender

Tim: Sam Fender is one of the best lyricists in the game at the moment. His lyrics paint a beautiful picture for every song, he takes you into his world for those 3 mins. He’s a storyteller through and through but wraps it all up In masterful pop rock.
