Single of the Day: Ali Barter “Far Away” (2016)

Spent too much money on coffee and cigarettes, I’ve never felt so far away…

It’s a catchy as fuck line that will get into your head just off the first listen of Ali Barter‘s new single “Far Away” – a definite highlight of my week of listening to new music this week, that’s for sure. Recorded in LA with Harlan Silverman, Barter’s new tune is a noticeable departure from her previous releases as she embraces some almost cathartic chorus vocals and some damning riffs.

The song feels like it’s made for listening you want to be letting go and shirking all expectations and responsibility – generally how I feel whenever I’m overseas. For Barter, who’s spent quite a bit of time now writing and recording in LA, it would make sense if she embraced this similar feeling of being an unknown on the other side of the world. Produced by Holy Holy’s Oscar Dawson and mixed by Stephen Mowat, “Far Away” is a tune you need to get into your life ASAP.
