Lisa Crawley has been making herself well at home within the local Melbourne music scene and also abroad, heading to Canada to take up a residency at the Banff Centre for Arts and Creativity. Spending the last year writing and performing Cabaret with Elizabeth, as well as touring and arranging for symphony orchestras, Crawley has returned well and truly with her new single in “You Got Me”.
A great dose of dreamy pop for those lookin, “You Got Me” shows Crawley operating at her creative best. The instrumentation is gorgeous and layered, while the lyricism brings forth a more stripped back, honest, open side of Crawley’s artistry.
Working with Kim Richey on the track, Crawley explains the process behind it.
““You Got Me” is a song I started a few years ago but left unfinished until I went to the incredible Banff Centre for Arts and Creativity. I played it to Kim Richey, one of the faculty in a mentoring session and she helped me remove all the sugar-coated lyrics, and left it as a simple song about being mistreated, yet still there. I worked with producer Mic Hubbard on the track and he created a dreamy sound with drive, without being overly soppy. It was still missing a little something, so I got out my high school clarinet and recorded some parts, and it left us with a dreamy chamber pop number that I hope people enjoy.”
