Single of the Day: The Love Junkies “Johnny Horner” (2017)

Cough and Splutter is the new EP release from The Love Junkiesthe first of two EPs to be dropped by the WA group this year. Of course, their return in 2017 came eagerly received and warmly welcomed; over the run of the last few years, The Love Junkies had fashioned themselves into one of our best emerging bands and international exports. Their decision to take time off in 2016 was an understandable one, but also an intriguing one, given we didn’t know what new music would eventuate and what direction it would be heading in.

With the band’s new single “Johnny Horner”, we’ve gotten another little insight. The Love Junkies’ now unmistakeable fusion of grunge and pop-punk is once more given the spotlight, while a refined and matured sense of songwriting and lyricism shines. Cleverness has always been part of The Love Junkies’ songwriting stock, but with their new material, we’re hearing a new flair cast over this aspect of the band’s songwriting.
