To say Wafia has blown up in 2017 is an understatement. From a massive headline Aussie tour to playing massive European shows with BØRNS, plus the huge success of previous single “Bodies”, it’s suffice to say that Wafia is a name you should know. The ride only continues into the new year, with a North America tour already scheduled and the release of the highly anticipated album VIII EP on the horizon.
From the new album comes the single “Only Love”, a touching look into the cultural complexities of falling for someone of the same gender for the first time. Wafia was born to Syrian and Iraqi parents in the Netherlands before moving to Australia. As a young Muslim woman in Australia, identity plays a significant part in Wafia’s artistry, and “Only Love” demonstrates the positive power of a diverse Australian music industry.
