Sony teams up with Motorola to find High School talent in MySchoolAct

Musicians from every metro, regional and rural high school across Australia are being given an opportunity like never before, the chance of scoring a recording deal with Sony Music Entertainment to the value of $50,000 as well as being included in the lineup at Australia’s biggest touring music festival the Big Day Out 2012 all thanks to MySchoolAct, powered by Motorola.

MySchoolAct is an online music and talent competition exclusively created for Australian high school students with a passion for the music industry. MySchoolAct supports the music infrastructure within schools and is FREE to enter.

“MySchoolAct has been designed to showcase the incredible talent of high school bands and musicians across Australia and enables them to build and interact with a fanbase, and of course to showcase their music and videos. We anticipate that we will be uncovering some incredible talent over the next few months and to nurture and inspire the competitors we have actor and TV Music Host Nathan Sapsford on board as presenter of this year’s competition. Here from Los Angeles, Nathan will host interviews with established artists, industry experts and registered acts throughout the competition.” Said Daniel Simic, CEO, MySchoolAct.

MySchoolAct offers a platform for budding musicians to be heard and discovered by submitting a video or MP3 of their performance at www.myschoolact.com. Publicity plays a key role for all new bands, and each act needs to campaign for support within their local and wider communities to gain votes via comments, downloads, video views and fans. The top five finalists will be flown to Sydney for an exclusive weekend workshop culminating in the Grand Final where the winner will be announced.

“We look forward to working with MySchoolAct to find and develop great new Australian talent,” says Denis Handlin AM, Chairman & CEO Sony Music Entertainment Australia & New Zealand and President South East Asia & Korea.

Prizing for MySchoolAct 2011 is more than impressive; it’s a career launch pad, with the winner scoring a $50,000 recording deal from Sony Music, a publishing deal with Sony/ATV Publishing to the value of $15,000 and Motorola prize packs.

But wait… there’s more… loads more! One top act from the areas of WA, ACT/NSW, TAS/VIC, SA, QLD/NT will land the ultimate gig and be included in the line-up of the hottest music festival in Australia, Big Day Out 2012, which will be celebrating its 20-year anniversary next year. This is all thanks to mobile legend Motorola, which has come on board to support the MySchoolAct competition.

Timo Brouwer, Managing Director, Motorola Mobility ANZ and South Pacific says “Motorola is excited to be getting behind such a worthwhile program and supporting the cultural development of Australian youth. MySchoolAct is a unique talent-fostering program, which gives young people an incredible launching pad into a solid career opportunity in music, including exposure in a high impact environment like Big Day Out. We look forward to seeing them at the festival!”

Individual musicians and support team members are also eligible to win full first year scholarships in Film Production, Audio Engineering and Design and Multimedia from SAE Institute and Qantm College.

Supported by Channel [V] and The Music Network, fans of MySchoolAct will be rewarded with the latest music news, prizes and cool videos from known artists updated weekly.
