Keep Sydney Open installs special plaques across the city’s lockout zone

Last Friday, Keep Sydney Open garnered wide media attention from all across the country, as they partnered with 18 internationally successful Australian musicians and Lorde, to install a series of plaques outside shutdown live music venues within the city’s new lockout zone. The plaques were placed to mark the venues where each of the participating musicians cut their teeth, played their early gigs, held residencies, or met fellow members.

The participating artists included the likes of Flume, Flight Facilities, RUFUS, Alison Wonderland, Peking Duk, Art vs Science, The Presets, Hayden James, Yolanda Be Cool, and Lorde (who played her very first showcase at Goodgod).

Live music plays a fundamental part in the success of new musicians, and is the main source of income for most musicians. In addition, according to Music Australia, the live music industry also employs around 40,000 people on a full-time basis, and contributes $2 billion annually to the Australian economy.

Keep Sydney Open will be holding their second rally against the new state lockout laws on Sunday October 9.
