In our 67th instalment of “Stumbled Upon”, we meet German rockers YUCCA, and chat about their changing influences (from Jimmy Eat World to Soulwax) and check out one of their most addictive tracks from 2011’s Make Up, Young Birds.

Members & their roles:
The roles vary through the songs, but roughly: Christian (guitar & vocals), Matthias (guitar & vocals), Daniel (bass), Peter (synths) and Ric (drums).
What music or artists inspired you?
In the beginning, though we all had different influences, we spent much of our time listening to artists like The Van Pelt, Ted Leo, Radio 4, Jimmy Eat World or even the Get Up Kids. When you are young you are really into those peppy and energetic bands, what also reflected in our songs at that time. Later on we shared interests in bands like The Cure, Soulwax and other more electronically influenced artists. We set the focus from purely guitar-based music to the style we wanted the songs to be. We did what we wanted to do, so you can even find songs without any guitar.
How did the band get started?
We started this band almost 16 years ago, back in our late school days. We were playing in different bands that split up and as we already knew each other it was no big deal to start something new. There has been quite a lively music scene at home compared to other much bigger cities (Hersbruck has less than 15,000 residents).
How would you best describe your live show:
Loud, powerful, fun, sweaty, energetic, stage diving, dance
What shows do you have coming up?
For now we are focussing on writing new songs and are planning some club shows at the end of this year. Hopefully we are making it to Oz as a band as we really enjoyed the last time we were there this January.

Tell us about your latest release:
The latest release is our album Seasons from 2014 and has been released on CD, Vinyl and downloads. We spent one year through all the seasons and kept all the stuff on tape, so the songs are a kind of mixture from guitar to electro and still make you dance.
