Brisbane’s newest one-day party, Sweet Relief! is a new event taking place at Maritime Green, Northshore on September 16. Headline Dj sets from Groove Armada and The Avalanches will keep the energy levels high. As if that’s not enough, there will also be performances from Latifa Tee, Nina Las Vegas, Cut Copy, YO! Mafia and Ladyhawke.
QLD Music Trails has joined forces with Untitled Group, Australia’s largest independently-owned music and events company and the masterminds behind festivals such as Beyond The Valley, Grapevine Gathering, and Wildlands to create this unique event.
Sweet Relief! also boasts a travelling queer safe space, POOF DOOF’s Pride Patrol. The DJs in this space include Melbourne’s Argonaut and DJ Enn as well as Beverley Kills of RuPaul’s Drag Race Down Under, Ruby Slippers and Luna Thicc. This is bound to be a fun and colourful event, with community at heart.
On top of all this is the Dress Up Contest. Judges this year are TV presenter Osher Günsberg and drag superstar, Jimi The Kween (pictured above launching the festival this week ). There are over $10,000 in prizes to be won, including a luxury getaway to Far North Queensland for 4 people. Categories include Best Individual Costume, Best Group Theme and Best Couple Ensemble.
Osher Günsberg says: “As a through and through Brizzo, I’m stoked to come home to see two of my all-time favourites, The Avalanches and Groove Armada. Sweet Relief! is Australia’s biggest dress-up party, and for this gig – I get to be a judge! Whether you’re from Bris Vegas, Brio De Janeiro or Brisneyland – I’ll see you at Sweet Relief!”
If the cold winter weather is getting you down, maybe you need to head up to sunny Brisbane for a dose of Vitamin D.
