Set List Essentials: Five songs we hope Damien Rice plays on his first Australian tour in more than a decade

Irish singer-songwriter Damien Rice has announced his return to Australia in February 2019 to perform his first shows in over ten years. Playing intimate venues in Sydney, Brisbane, Hobart, Bendigo and Melbourne, Rice will be playing his most iconic songs and fan favourites from My Favourite Faded Fantasy, which have yet to be played live for Aussie audiences. In preparation for these highly anticipated shows, let’s take a look at some of Damien Rice’s best music, and five tracks we really hope he includes in his Aussie set lists.

The Blower’s Daughter

Damien Rice’s debut single, “The Blower’s Daughter” is a highly emotive track, featured in the 2004 film, Closer. With over 90 million streams on Spotify, this song is clearly a fan favourite and it’s not hard to see why.

Cannonball

Released in 2002, “Cannonball” comes from Damien’s debut studio album, O. By this point, his remarkable talent for songwriting is obvious, seemingly able to tap in to any emotion and make it look easy in the process.

9 Crimes

Another iconic Damien Rice track, “9 Crimes” is a beautifully melancholic duet with Lisa Hannigan. The ballad comes from Damien’s second album, 9, and has been featured in a number of films and TV shows. Another track with over 90 million Spotify streams, this song is clear favourite of many.

I Don’t Want To Change You

A track from My Favourite Faded Fantasy, “I Don’t Want To Change You” is another prime example of Damien’s impressive and emotional songwriting ability. In true Damien Rice fashion, this song is absolutely beautiful.

Older Chests

Another track from O, “Older Chests” is a song about change. Incredibly touching, Damien’s voice on this track will carry you away. Check out this video of Damien performing “Older Chests” at his home earlier this year.
