As we get ready for BIGSOUND – which kicks off in Brisbane tomorrow, we continue our pre-interview series talking to locals Slip On Stereo about what they’re expecting from the event, life on the road, what’s next from the group and more…
Tell us what you’re up to at the moment
Slip on Stereo are in the middle of releasing their 5 track ep. Earlier this year they went into the studio to work with producer Anthony Lycenko (Matt Corby, Pete Murry, Busby Marou). They released “Mercury”, the first single off the Ep, in June and are now releasing their first Music Video. Bigsound is in the middle of their tour dates promoting their new EP.
Have you played BIGSOUND before?
Yes, last year we played at the Virgin home party. That was a great experience for a very fresh band. From that showcase we have developed a great relationship with Q music and also footstomp music. We have some fantastic people that have invested into our future and Bigsound had a massive part in giving us the opportunities to develop relationships with people in the Australian Music industry.
Have you played any overseas industry events?
No we haven’t played overseas yet but we are trying to work on getting overseas very soon. From our showcase this year we are hoping that as artists we have developed our performance and product so that we can show some international delegates what we can do and hopefully explore the possibilities of either showcasing or touring overseas.
What can crowds expect from your shows?
We are a bunch or guys that just like to have a great time. We aim to get everybody dancing in the room when we play. We love bringing our audience into a place where they feel they are part of our show. We like to think that we are not just up on stage and the audience is down there looking up at us. We want the audience to feel like they are creating that party atmosphere with us.
Are there any bands you’re looking forward to seeing perform?
So many bands that we are looking forward to see, Tiger Town, Cub Scouts, Nat Dunn, Sheppard, Good Oak, Busby Marou. There are so many great acts it is going to be hard to get to everything we want to see.
Any talks/speakers you’re looking forward to?
Michael Chugg, Kasey Chambers and as many others we can get to really. We are looking forward to hearing from all of the leaders in the industry at Bigsound.
What are three essential items for life on the road?
A good mix playlist, acoustic guitar, Phill our bass player’s favourite pillow (unhappy tour if we forget the pillow).
What has been your favourite Australian album of the year so far?
Passenger’s album…
What will the rest of 2013 be holding for you? (
We have been working hard in the first half of this year creating a product and sound that we are proud of. We have a list of dates through out the rest of this year including the exciting first Boomerang Festival. Supporting some other Australian acts and taking the Slip-On Stereo party on the road.
