Gold Coast duo Bleeding Knees Club are appearing at the Changing Lanes festival. We chatted to Alex.
Who are you and were might we know you from?
I’m Alex Wall, and you may know me from Chatroulette.
A story you’ve probably told far too often… but where do you come from?
Well, I’ve known Jordan since I was about 2. We met in daycare and our mums forced us to hang out with each other. Then we kinda didn’t hang out with each other for a few years until we were reunited by unemployment and boredom. I moved down the street from Jordan and we both were super bored. Then one day Jordan bought a $100 drum kit and put it in his garage, and I had an amp, and we started trying to play music. But we had no idea how to play instruments, and still have no idea. Then miraculously we made up 4 songs and played at an art show for 5 minutes and people really liked it. Now we can do 40 minute solos and drum fills like you’ve never heard.
Changing Lanes Festival is all about supporting FBi. What does FBi Radio mean to you?
Funny Boob Illustrations
What can we expect from your performance at the festival?
Heaps of explosions, knee slidezzz, acrobats, Greg Norman, and midgets fire twirling on rollerblades.
What are YOU expecting from us / the audiences?
I’m expecting a breakdance circle while we play. I want the crowd to re-enact a scene from STEP UP 2.
Have you played a festival before or is this the first time? If not the first time, what have your festival experiences been like in the past?
We played Big Day Out this year, and played a couple festivals while we were in the UK recently. Festivals are always weird to play, we usually like to interact with the crowd and be close to them, and it’s hard to do that at a festival. But usually we still have fun.
What would be your #1 festival tip for a punter?
Keep your shirt on.
Your year highlight so far, as a musician?
I think my highlight has been working with Dev Hynes (Lightspeed Champion, Test Icicles, Blood Orange) on our album in New York. He’s such a rad guy and it was a pretty crazy experience getting to hang out and work in the studio with him.
What’s next for you/your band?
We are going back to the USA in October so play some shows, Then we will hopefully release our record and see what happens.
