After their set at the Canadian Blast BBQ at SXSW, Sose sat down with Yukon Blonde vocalist Jeff Innes for a chat about touring, preparing new material for the follow up to 2012’s Tiger Talk record and more. Although it’s been a little while in between new records, Innes is stoked with the final result of their new material, noting that it was a much more cohesive effort.
“We’re all happy with it, it’s a much more democratic record than Tiger Talk, our last one. Our last one, I basically demo’ed all the songs and everybody played the parts, you know? In this one, everybody’s together; it was really crazy and it was really long, but it’s probably the most rewarding experience I’ve had making a record. We sent our record down to Tony Hoffer who’s mixed Beck and M83 and Air;he mixed the record and now it sounds out of control! It sounds so good!”
While touring the new material through the States is what the band has currently been focusing on, Innes is enthusiastic about the prospect of Yukon Blonde coming back through to Australia and perhaps even jumping over to New Zealand in the near future.
“I love Australia. We’re hoping to get there this winter! I’m talking too soon, but we’re going to try our best to get there this winter. We’d love to just to go to Australia and maybe New Zealand if we can and spend a bit more time there than a week.”
“I feel like the American music scene or the market, it’s just so massive. There’s so much going on within the States and to try and get Australian bands or Canadian bands into the States is near impossible, it’s so hard! I think Canadian bands and Australian bands…we have a kinship because it’s basically like we’re all these little villages outside the big castle town!”
