the AU interview: Chris from Anchors (Melbourne)

Ahead of this weekend’s Australia Day fundraiser at the Reverence Hotel in Footscray, Melbourne, supporting Oxfam and The Refugee Council, we’re catching up with a bunch of the bands playing at the event! First up is Chris from Melbourne’s own punk rockers Anchors.

Tell us who you are, what band you’re from and where your band is from!

My name is Chris. I play guitar in Anchors and we call Melbourne home.

What is your latest single/album and where can we get it?

Lost at the bottom of the world. You can get it at www.bigcartel.anchorspunk.com
or www.creator-destructor.com … so many great bands to check out while you’re at it!

Tour wise, what do you have in store for 2014?

Nothing planned as of yet but we’d love to head back to the USA and The FEST.

How would you best describe your music?

Fast, melodic, with a few riffs. Sometimes, we do a groovy half-time bit, then we play fast again. Our drummer says he hates it but he’s the guy controlling the tempo. Besides, he’s good at it haha!

How would you best describe your live show?

Sweaty.

What can we expect from this set in particular? Anything special planned?

Sweaty dudes and bad jokes.

Anyone else you’re looking forward to seeing on the day?

Saturday: BATPISS
Sunday: The Union Pacific

What do you think is the perfect way to spend Australia day?

Duct tape a soft drink bottle to a meter of flexible conduit, cut off the bottom of the bottle and make a last minute beer bong. Share a few with your mates and then head down to The Reverence Hotel!

You’re performing at an event that is supporting Oxfam and The Refugee Council… what does this mean to you?

It’s a great way to raise money and remind people that not all Australians want to “STOP THE BOATS”

Since we all just voted in the hottest 100, what was your favourite song for 2013?

I didn’t.
