the AU interview: Stonefield and Owl Eyes talk about "The Line"

Next week, for the first time ever, Stonefield and Owl Eyes will tour together around the country, playing a variety of regional centres in support of the Australian Government’s initative The Line – a cause aimed at promoting respectful relationships amongst Australia’s youth. We caught up with Brooke aka Owl Eyes and Hannah from Stonefield to talk about the tour and the campaign.

Brooke Addamo aka Owl Eyes

What does it mean for you to be involved in The Line?

Being involved with The Line is such a great opportunity to use the out lets I have to spread a message. My main focus with being involved in The Line is the word ‘respect’ and talking about it as much as possible to raise awareness. It’s really important to me because The Line’s message can relate and affect everyone. I feel honoured to be promoting such a great cause.

What place do you feel music can play to bring awareness to the project?

Music is such a universal language and I feel music can connect with people in a way nothing else can. I feel I can use my status as a musician to raise awareness for The Line, particularly in the organisations target group, the youth.

What do you hope people take away from the events?

I really just hope people have a lot of fun. It’s going to be really excited for me to join forces with Stonefield and hit the road for the Winter tour. It’s really interesting because we are both such different artists and we are planning a few surprises.

What difference do you hope to see The Line make?

It will spread awareness and help prevent violence before it even enters in to the equation.

What are you most looking forward to about touring with the other half of the tour?

I’m really looking forward to having so many girls on tour it’s going to bring such a new and exciting dynamic, we are all friends so it’s going to be a lot of fun. I am also looking forward to heading out on stage with two very different artists I feel for a punter it will be an exciting show.

Hannah from Stonefield

What does it mean for you to be involved in The Line?

It means we get to support an awesome campaign that is trying to increase the knowledge of young people about respect in relationships and when to draw the line. We’re touring all over Regional Australia with Owl Eyes to help get the message out. It’s something everyone can relate to in one way or another, so we’re really happy to be on board.

What place do you feel music can play to bring awareness to the project?

Music is such a universal thing that everyone can relate to, so when a strong message is attached to it, it can reach a lot of people and really make an impact.

What do you hope people take away from the events?

We hope people become more aware of the Line and have a good think about the message we’re supporting. Also to have had a good night out watching live music!

What difference do you hope to see The Line make?

We hope more people stop and think about where they should draw the line. If people are getting bullied in any way they should know that there is help and that they shouldn’t have to go through it. Overall we hope to see more respect, less bullying and violence and people making a stand to it.

What are you most looking forward to about touring with the other half of the tour?

We normally go on tour with guy bands so it’s going to be a good change touring with another girl! We’ve played quite a few shows with Owl Eyes in the past and have become friends so it will be great to get on the road together and support an awesome campaign!
