the AU’s BIGSOUND Live Guide 2013: Who to See.

With this year’s BIGSOUND Live kicking off this week, you’ve no doubt checked out the stellar line up hitting Brisbane this coming Wednesday and Thursday nights. To help you narrow down your choices, here’s a list of the AU review’s favourite up and coming acts to check out.

Wednesday, September 11

1. Patrick James

Given this writer’s recent somewhat enthusiastic review of Patrick James’ release, the Sydney musician should really be the number one priority for any folk fan at this year’s showcase.

Playing: 8.00pm @ Ric’s Bar

2. The Audreys

Bringing some South Australian flavour to the line up, The Audreys’ have had a busy year, playing at SXSW and now, BigSound – how does little old Brissy compare with the legendary music marathon? This writer eagerly awaits the results.

Playing: 8.20pm @ Black Bear Lodge

3. Davey Lane

Having toured with Bob Evans earlier this year and been touted as ‘one to watch’, Davey Lane, the guitarist from You Am I, is definitely one act highly recommended by the Au Review.

Playing: 9.10pm @ Black Bear Lodge

4. Chance Waters

Number 10 on ‘Our 12 Favourite Tours of 2012’, Chance Waters is renowned for his fun filled shows. A must see for any hip hop fan.

Playing: 10pm @ the Tempo Hotel

Thursday, September 12

1. Elizabeth Rose

Another act that should be on the list of any electro pop fan’s BigSound schedule, is Sydney’s Elizabeth Rose, who has gained an impressive following around the country with her catchy tune ‘Again’.

Playing: 8.00pm @ Bakery Lane

2. Sheppard

No doubt you’ve heard the catchy tunes from the Sheppard siblings on the radio, well Big Sound is probably one your last chances to catch the band playing such an intimate venue in their home town. A set not to be missed by any pop rock fan.

Playing: 9.40pm @ Channel [V] Stage

3. Bed Wettin’ Bad Boys

Sometimes I like to see bands based on their reviews and the hype they generate. Sometimes, it’s basically because their names are hilarious. And the Bed Wettin’ Bad Boys are definitely in the latter category.

Playing: 9.40pm @ Ric’s Bar

4. Thelma Plum

2013 has already been a remarkable year for the talented Thelma Plum with the songstress recently winning the ‘Indigenous’ aware at this year’s Queensland Music Awards.

Playing: 10pm @ Black Bear Lodge

5. The Demon Parade

Drawing comparisons with Jesus and Mary Chain, The Demon Parade should be on the agenda for any classic rock fan at the showcase.

Playing: 10.50pm @ Press Club

6. Melbourne Ska Orchestra

Ska music is at its best loud. And with 30-odd members Melbourne Ska Orchestra should deliver their set live and deliciously loud. Should be interesting to see how the full band will fit on the Bakery Lane stage.

Playing: 11.20pm @ Bakery Lane
