Built on a foundation of swirling psychedelic guitars and vocal harmonies, The Demon Parade are releasing their debut EP God Said It’s Legal. The EP follows on from the band’s first release – a limited 500 run of a special-edition 7” which were quickly snapped-up – as well as a string of high-profile gigs at Cherry Rock Festival, Playground Weekender and supporting Brian Jonestown Massacre at all shows on their recent 2010 Australian tour. Anton Newcombe even gave the band his blessing to “play as long as you want” in their support sets.
‘Do You Believe In Hell’, the first single from the EP, has just made the leap from the aural to the visual world with the release of the band’s debut film clip. Filmed in Sydney with Director Heath Davis and Producer Luke Graham from Scope Red, the clip takes the viewer on a dark and twisted ride in the back of a van, through the sinister streets until reaching their final destination. Featuring space rock shaman and songwriter Michael Badger on guitar and vocals, Jarryd Boath on guitar, Rob Bryers (Bass/Vocals) and Greg Dempster (drums); the band has recently added ex-Treetops singer Jordan Speering on additional guitar and vocal duties – and are now primed to unleash the beast that is their debut EP God Said It’s Legal.
Recorded, and mixed by Badger himself at his Jaya Jaya studios, God Said It’s Legal captures The Demon Parade’s dense and ethereal sound, presenting a band that rewards faith in the danger, unpredictability and palpable thrill of live rock n’ roll. From the seductive and defiant harmonies of first single Do You Believe In Hell? to the shimmering guitar chimes of Afterworld, the EP is a Pandora’s Box of texture and melody. Taking the pointed pop melodies of early 90s Britpop and the spectral depth of 70s Psychedelic Rock as reference points, God Said It’s Legal EP finds its foundations in music from the past but audaciously bashes down the door to the future.
