"The Goss" Exclusive: Gary Numan collaborates with New York's Battles.

One of the most exciting bands to come of of New York City in recent years, Battles made waves with their 2007 album Mirrored. In fact, it still makes regular appearances on most of our iPods. Thankfully, it sounds like it won’t be long before Battles finally deliver on their promise on a follow up record.

Pioneer of electronic music, the one and only Gary Numan revealed to the AU review today: “I just did a track with Battles, I did the vocals and the lyrics. They are so different, unique… they’ve got such an unusual approach to putting their music together. I was really honoured, really proud to be involved in that. Very very cool. I think they’re going to be huge.”

After Tyondai Braxton exited the band last year, they confirmed a new album and tour remained on the cards for 2011, although some remained skeptical. However, this news indeed makes it sound like the band is very much on track.

While we await more news on exactly what this collaboration will mean, as he wouldn’t give up any hints as to what we could expect, here’s a look back at my favourite Battles track “Atlas”.

We’ll have more news for you as it happens!
