On the day when Australians are set to celebrate the best music of the last year courtesy of the ARIAs (airing tonight at 7.30pm), one of the night’s big performers has also enjoyed the news that he’s nominated for Best New Artist at the mother-flipping Grammy Awards in the USA.
That artist is none other than Indigenous Australian superstar The Kid LAROI – who we interviewed at his first ARIAs in 2018! This is his first ever Grammy nomination. And he’s also set to perform at the ARIAs tonight!
Another ARIA performer set to head to the Grammys next year, are EDM stars Rüfüs Du Sol, who just last week performed to some 75,000 people in Los Angeles over three nights, with Flight Facilities & WhoMadeWho. Rüfüs Du Sol have been nominated for Best Dance/Electronic Recording for the brilliant “Alive”. They’ve been nominated twice before.
Nominated for Best Soul/R&B Release at the ARIAs tonight for their brilliant LP Mood Valiant, the group Hiatus Kaiyote also have received a nomination for Best Progressive R&B Album at the Grammys. They have been nominated twice before in the Best R&B Performance category.
And they’re not the only Aussies to be nominated at the Grammys this year – legends AC/DC also scored three nominations – Best Rock Performance, Best Rock Album and Best Music Video. They’re also nominated for two ARIAs tonight.
Nick Cave and Warren Ellis also have been nominated at the Grammys for Best Recording Package, for Carnage. That album also scored the pair an ARIA nomination for Best Adult Contemporary Album.
The ARIAs are tonight at 7.30pm AEDT, and available to watch on YouTube Music.
The 64th Grammy Awards will be held on 31st January 2022, live from the Crypto.com Arena (currently known as the Staples Center) in Los Angeles. The full list of nominees can be found HERE.
