the AU review turned five years old earlier this month, and to celebrate, throughout the month of August we’re asking many of our music industry friends to help us look back on the last five years of music! Next we catch up with Tim Carroll from Brisbane’s Holy Holy, who looks back on his top five records of the last five years…
My Five Favourite Albums from the last Five Years!
Holy Holy would like to wish the AU Review a Happy Birthday on this momentous occasion. let the good times roll.
1) Here We Go Magic: A Different Ship
An amazing record from the New York Based Group it all kind of made sense when we realised Nigel Godrich was at the helm.
2) Big Scary: No Art
I’ve been listening to these guys for a while but recently caught them for an instore at Jet Black Cat in West End and had my mind blown. Great songs, inventive arrangements and really strong vocals.
3) Ben Salter: The Cat
Being Brisbane based I’ve enjoyed my fair share of Ben Salter performances and so I was really pleased when he released this long player. Recorded and produced by Gareth Liddiard from the Drones, it’s an eclectic mix of tunes and feels well worth a listen.
4) Alt-J: An Awesome Wave
Again a band that have managed to make their own sound. Inventive tracks with great feel and production.
5) Charles Bradley: No Time for Dreaming
It’s my dream to see this guy perform live. Read his story on wiki. He’s with the Daptone crew making great soul records in the style of James Brown.
