Tom from The Trouble With Templeton continues his USA Tour Diaries as we travel to New York for the annual CMJ Music Marathon.
Being a part of CMJ music marathon was a crazy and incredible experience. New York is one of my favorite cities in the world and having the chance to finally play there was a huge deal and big honor for me. I had the unique opportunity to experience the city from a completely different angle than I ever have before and as a result, felt so much more a part of what the heart of what New York is all about.
I played a total of 3 shows, my favorite and also last show of the whole trip being “The Aussie BBQ”, a night showcasing all the Australian talent attending the festival. A part from it being an completely killer night of music, it was also a great chance to catchup with a whole bunch of bands and good friends from back home.

I was lucky enough to have a few days holiday in New York and it was the perfect opportunity to explore more of the city and re-visit some of my favourite places.
One of my favourite things to do in New York is visit the “Film Forum”, an amazing cinema in Soho that regularly showcases Legendary film-makers and classic movies.
This time around I caught two silent films “Dr Jack” and “Speedy” by master comedian Harold Lloyd.
Brooklyn is a wonderful place to walk around, there’s nothing quite like grabbing a coffee at Grumpys in Park Slope (Good coffee IS possible in Nyc!) and walking around the incredible tree lined streets. If you ever find yourself in Brooklyn heights desiring some of the best food in NYC, I hugely reccommend “Grimaldi’s” Pizza under the Brooklyn bridge. Famous for their massive and insanely delicious Pizza’s (Pepperoni all the way.) Afterwards you should catch the beautiful view of Manhattan while walking the incredible Brooklyn Bridge.

New York is a vibrant, energetic and constantly evolving city. It’s my opinion that even if you lived here it would be impossible to see everything it has to offer in one lifetime, and having the chance to play there is something I’ll never forget. I can’t wait to be back again!
